Why launch is PS5 and Xbox only, with PC later

Rockstar's release order has not changed in twenty years: consoles first, everything else afterwards.

What is confirmed

The release date is 19 November 2026, and the platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is the final date after two public delays; in August 2026 Take-Two’s leadership separately confirmed there would not be a third.

A PC version is not on the launch platform list. The studio has announced neither a date nor a window for it — as of this piece, exactly one thing is known about the PC release: it is not happening on 19 November.

How it went before

The consoles-then-PC order has been consistent at Rockstar:

  • GTA IV shipped on consoles in April 2008 and on PC in December of the same year.
  • GTA V shipped on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and on PC in April 2015, close to eighteen months later.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped on consoles in October 2018 and on PC in November 2019.

The gap has ranged from eight months to a year and a half. There is no stated rule here — it is an observation about past releases, and it promises nothing specific about the sixth game.

What PC players can expect

The practical takeaway is simple: if you play on PC and are not prepared to wait for an unspecified stretch, a console at launch is the only route. If you are prepared to wait, there is a case for not rushing a pre-order — Rockstar’s PC versions usually arrive with more settings, higher frame rates and a chunk of the launch problems already fixed.

Steam is absent from the launch storefronts for the same reason: it is a PC platform. Whether the game turns up there or sells through Rockstar’s own store, the studio has not said.

Worth keeping in mind: there is still a fair stretch of time before release, and any PC rumour ahead of an official announcement remains a rumour.
